Black Princesses Show Grit To Seal World Cup Qualification

Head Coach of the Black Princesses, Charles Sampson, has praised his players for their determination and fighting spirit after securing qualification to the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
The Black Princesses booked their place at the global tournament after battling to a 1-1 draw against Uganda U-20 Women’s National Team in Kampala, progressing on aggregate following their 2-1 first-leg victory in Accra.
Speaking after the game, Coach Sampson described the qualification campaign as a major achievement for the team, stressing that the players demonstrated courage and composure under intense pressure.
According to him, the technical team had targeted qualification since the beginning of preparations and remained focused throughout the campaign despite difficult moments.
He admitted that Uganda proved a tough opponent in both legs, especially with their ability to disrupt Ghana’s attacking style, but noted that the Black Princesses responded positively after tactical adjustments in the second half.
Coach Sampson further commended his players for refusing to surrender even after Uganda took the lead and Ghana were reduced to 10 players following a red card.
He said the team’s never-say-die attitude has become one of their biggest strengths, adding that the players showed exceptional character to fight back and secure the equaliser that ensured qualification.
The Ghana coach also acknowledged the quality of the Ugandan side, saying overcoming such a strong opponent made the qualification even more memorable.
The 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be hosted by Poland from September 5 to September 27, 2026.
