Black Stars Hold England to Goalless Draw, Edge Closer to Round of 32

The Black Stars of Ghana produced a disciplined defensive display to hold England to a goalless draw in their Group Three clash, moving a step closer to qualification for the Round of 32.
England dominated possession for much of the encounter but failed to break down Ghana’s resolute defence. Their closest opportunity came when they struck the crossbar, but they were unable to find the back of the net despite creating several chances.
The result leaves both teams on four points after two matches, with England remaining top of the group on superior goal difference. Croatia and Panama, who both lost their opening matches to England and Ghana respectively, were scheduled to face each other later.
Ghana’s midfield remained compact throughout the game, successfully limiting the influence of England’s attacking trio of Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Noni Madueke.
Although both coaches introduced fresh legs in the second half, Ghana stood firm to deny one of the tournament favourites in a pulsating 90-minute contest.
Coach Carlos Queiroz’s tactical approach of soaking up pressure and attacking on the counter worked effectively. Ghana came close to snatching a famous victory, but forward Senaya delayed his pass to Antoine Semenyo, who was left unmarked in front of goal, allowing the opportunity to slip away.
With four points from two matches, Ghana are in a strong position to qualify for the Round of 32, although they still have one final group game against Croatia on June 27.
A win or a draw against Croatia would confirm Ghana’s place in the knockout stage and send a strong message to the rest of the competition that the Black Stars are determined to surpass their historic quarter-final achievement at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
