Obuasi East MCE Donates GH¢250,000 Transformers to End Six-Month Power Crisis
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi East, William Kofi Adzowu, has donated two 200KVA/33KVA transformers valued at GH¢250,000 to the Kwabenakwa and Asonkore communities to help restore stable electricity supply.
The donation comes after the two communities endured persistent power outages for about six months, disrupting businesses, schooling and other daily activities.
According to the MCE, the Municipal Assembly decided to procure the transformers after the required equipment was temporarily unavailable at the Ministry of Energy.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Mr. Adzowu apologised to residents for the prolonged power challenges, describing the situation as unfortunate.
He said providing reliable services to residents remained a key responsibility of the Assembly and assured the communities of its continued commitment to infrastructure development.
“I am here to serve the good people of Obuasi East, and it is my primary responsibility to ensure that our citizens receive the reliable services they deserve,” he said.
Mr. Adzowu further urged residents to protect the transformers, avoid illegal connections and promptly report faults to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to help prolong the lifespan of the equipment.
Nana Akwasi Addo, Abusuapayin for Kwabenakwa Subinso, expressed gratitude to the MCE and the Assembly, saying the prolonged power instability had severely affected small businesses.
He noted that several traders had suffered significant financial losses and depleted their trading capital as a result of the unreliable power supply.
The Assembly Member for the Kwabenakwa Electoral Area, Charles Abu, commended the MCE for what he described as a swift intervention and hands-on leadership.
He said the installation of the new transformers would provide a major boost to economic activities and recovery in the affected communities.
Technical teams from ECG are currently finalising the installation of the transformers, with stable electricity supply expected to be restored to Kwabenakwa and Asonkore in the coming days.
