Alpha Radio Disowns ‘Journalist’ In GH¢23,700 Fraud Case

Management of Alpha Radio 104.9 FM in Kumasi has disowned a 29-year-old suspect standing trial at the Nsuta Circuit Court for allegedly defrauding a victim of GH¢23,700 under the guise of providing spiritual cleansing.

The suspect, whose name has not been disclosed, is alleged to have represented himself as a journalist working with Alpha Radio while carrying out the purported spiritual cleansing activities.

However, the management of the radio station has categorically denied any association with him, saying its official records show that he has never been an employee, journalist, reporter, presenter, correspondent, contributor or representative of the station.

In a disclaimer submitted to the court, Alpha Radio said it had neither authorised the suspect to present himself as a journalist or staff member nor permitted him to use the station’s name, identity, platform or reputation for personal, professional or any other purposes.

The station said it was concerned that the suspect’s alleged claim of being an Alpha Radio journalist could create a false impression that his activities were connected to or endorsed by the media organisation.

Management therefore urged the court to take judicial notice of its disclaimer and treat any reference by the accused to Alpha Radio or his alleged position as a journalist of the station as alleged misrepresentation or impersonation.

“Alpha Radio therefore completely dissociates itself, its Management, staff and journalists from the said suspect and from the allegations before the court,” the station stated.

The management stressed that Alpha Radio was committed to professional journalism, ethical conduct and service to the public, insisting that it would not knowingly associate itself with, endorse or condone fraudulent, deceptive or unlawful activities.

It further assured the court that it was ready to provide any clarification or confirmation that might be required regarding the suspect’s alleged affiliation with the station.

The disclaimer was signed by Alhaji Hafiz Abubakar, Administrator of Alpha Radio 104.9 FM.
