Driver Jailed 15 Years for Stabbing, Robbing Woman

The Bekwai Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region has sentenced a 24-year-old driver, Nana Kyei Emmanuel, to 15 years’ imprisonment for stabbing and robbing a 22-year-old woman at Esereso.
The convict was found guilty after a full trial presided over by His Honour Isaac Apietu.
Nana Kyei Emmanuel was charged with causing harm, contrary to Section 69 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and robbery, contrary to Section 149 of the same Act.
The court heard that on June 14, 2026, at about 2:00 a.m., the victim, Beatrice Achiaa Agyemang, an unemployed resident of Esereso, went to a nearby night pharmacy to purchase medication after experiencing stomach pains.
According to the prosecution, while she was returning home and had reached an area around the Esereso Roman Catholic Church, the convict suddenly emerged from behind a metal container armed with a knife.
He allegedly stabbed the left side of the victim’s ribs before forcibly taking away her iPhone 11 Pro Max, valued at GH¢2,600, and fleeing the scene.
The victim subsequently reported the incident to the Feyiase Police, who commenced investigations and activated measures to trace the stolen phone.
The court heard that the phone was traced to the convict, who later answered a call placed to it using another number.
He allegedly directed the victim to meet him at Atonsu Kuwait under the pretext of returning the phone. However, he reportedly demanded sexual intercourse as a condition for handing over the device.
Police officers accompanied the victim to the location, where the convict was apprehended.
A search conducted on him led to the recovery of the stolen iPhone and a knife suspected to have been used in the attack.
The prosecution subsequently charged him and put him before the Bekwai Circuit Court.
Detective Chief Inspector Eric Okyere led the prosecution in the case.
