Bawumia Wins NPP Presidential Primaries in Atwima Kwanwoma

The Member of Parliament for Atwima Kwanwoma and former Deputy Defence Minister, Kofi Amankwa-Manu, has commended delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the peaceful conduct of the party’s presidential primaries, describing the process as a clear expression of the delegates’ choice ahead of the 2028 general elections.

His comments followed the victory of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who won the NPP presidential primaries in the constituency with 673 votes.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong placed second with 358 votes, while Bryan Acheampong secured 111 votes. Yaw Osei Adutwum polled 15 votes, and Kwabena Agyapong recorded two votes. Two ballots were rejected.

Out of an expected 1,242 delegates, 1,159 valid votes were cast.

The results were declared by the District Director of the Electoral Commission, Ms. Elizabeth Ohene, at the end of the exercise.

Voting took place at the Twedie Technical Institute, starting at 7:15 a.m. and ending at 2:00 p.m. The process was peaceful, with tight security deployed throughout the polling period.

Supporters of Dr. Bawumia celebrated the outcome with spontaneous jubilation, singing and clapping at the polling centre.

Mr. Amankwa-Manu later called on party members to remain united and intensify campaigning efforts to return the NPP to power and address the economic challenges currently facing the country under the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
