DCE Distributes Nkoko Nkitinkiti Birds to Households in Atwima Kwanwoma

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Kwanwoma, Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah, has commenced the distribution of birds under the government’s flagship Nkoko Nkitinkiti Project, aimed at fulfilling campaign promises and promoting household poultry farming in the district.

The exercise, carried out recently, forms part of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s agricultural interventions designed to strengthen food security, improve livelihoods and reduce poverty at the grassroots level.

To ensure an orderly and fair process, the distribution was organised into two operational zones—Kwanwoma Mpatasie and the Atwima Techiman–Merewadwa areas.

Speaking to the media after the exercise, Hon. Agyemang Asamoah disclosed that each beneficiary household received 50 birds, a strategy she said was intended to economically empower families while encouraging small-scale poultry production.

She urged residents, especially beneficiaries, to rise above partisan considerations and support the initiative, stressing that the programme is meant to benefit all residents regardless of political affiliation.

“This is a national agricultural programme aimed at uplifting households and enhancing food security. It is not about politics, but about the future of our people and our country,” she stated.

The DCE assured residents that the exercise would continue in subsequent phases and appealed for patience, noting that all interested persons would be covered within the shortest possible time.

She expressed confidence that with proper management and collective effort, the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Project would have a significant positive impact on the local economy, particularly in rural communities.

Meanwhile, the Atwima Kwanwoma District Plant and Animal Protection Officer took beneficiaries through a practical sensitisation session on poultry management and disease prevention. He emphasised the need for proper housing, feeding, vaccination and sanitation, urging strict adherence to biosecurity measures to prevent infections and reduce mortality.

Beneficiaries, who expressed excitement over the initiative, commended the John Dramani Mahama administration and the Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly for the intervention. They pledged to put the birds to good use to ensure the success of the programme.

The Nkoko Nkitinkiti Project is part of the government’s broader strategy to boost local poultry production, reduce dependence on imported poultry products and create sustainable employment opportunities nationwide.
