NPP Convenes Emergency Meeting Over Wontumi Court Verdict

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has convened an emergency meeting to review the High Court’s judgment against its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi.

The emergency meeting, which includes the party’s flagbearer and legal team, is focused on assessing the court’s ruling in the Samreboi mining case and determining the party’s next course of action.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 20, 2026, and signed by the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said the ongoing deliberations are intended to enable its leadership to carefully study the judgment before taking any official decision.

According to the statement, the NPP will communicate its official position after the meeting and announce any decisions reached by the leadership.

“The Party will communicate its official position and the decisions arising from these deliberations in due course,” the statement noted.

The party also appealed to its members nationwide to remain calm, united and disciplined while the leadership concludes its consultations.

Justin Kodua Frimpong urged supporters to rally behind the party during what he described as a challenging period, stressing the need for members to remain steadfast in upholding the values and interests of the NPP.

The emergency meeting comes on the heels of the High Court’s judgment in the Samreboi mining case involving Chairman Wontumi, a ruling that has sparked widespread political discussion across the country. The outcome of the party’s deliberations is expected to shape its legal and political response to the case.
