Security Guard Jailed 15 Years For Defiling Child

The Bekwai Circuit Court has sentenced a 37-year-old security guard, Mohammed Abubakari, popularly known as Wofa Abu, to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for defiling an 8- year-old girl at Anyinam near Ahenema Kokoben in the Ashanti Region.
The convict was found guilty by the court presided over by Isaac Apietu, following the successful prosecution of the case by Inspector Odoom Godfred.
The prosecution told the court that on June 27, 2026, the convict lured the child into his security post after sending the child and another companion on an errand.
According to the prosecution, he committed the offence and threatened the child not to disclose the incident to anyone.
The offence remained unknown until the child later confided in friends, who informed the complainant. The matter was subsequently reported to the police, leading to investigations and a medical examination at Suntreso Government Hospital.
The medical report, which formed part of the prosecution’s evidence, supported the allegation and was tendered before the court.
Police later arrested Mohammed Abubakari, who, according to the prosecution, admitted the offence in his caution statement and pleaded for forgiveness.
After evaluating the evidence presented, the Bekwai Circuit Court found him guilty of defilement under Section 101(2) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and sentenced him to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
The court said the sentence was intended to serve as a deterrent to persons who prey on vulnerable children.
