Spain Crowned FIFA World Cup 2026 Champions

Spain were crowned FIFA World Cup 2026 champions after edging defending champions Argentina 1-0 in a tense final that was decided in the second half of extra time.

The breakthrough came when Ferran Torres struck the decisive goal, sending the Spanish players and fans into wild celebrations as La Roja lifted the coveted trophy for the first time since their triumph in 2010.

Argentina, who entered the final as the reigning world champions after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, struggled to make an impact throughout the contest. The South Americans failed to register a single shot during extra time, with captain Lionel Messi producing an unusually subdued performance and being largely kept quiet by Spain’s disciplined defence.

The Albiceleste’s hopes suffered a major setback when midfielder Enzo Fernández was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, forcing Argentina to finish the match with 10 men.

Spain held on to their slender advantage until the final whistle to secure a memorable victory and reclaim football’s biggest prize.
