Matukwa School in Critical State; Snakes Invade Classrooms

The Odikro of Matukwa in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region, Nana Oppong Kyekyeku I, together with PTA and School Management Committee (SMC) executives, as well as students, have raised alarm over the deplorable condition of their school, which they say is hampering effective teaching and learning.
According to Nana Oppong Kyekyeku I, the school has been in a deteriorated state since it was absorbed by the government in 1996. He noted that the poor infrastructure continues to affect academic performance, especially during examinations.
He further disclosed that students are often compelled to close early whenever it threatens to rain due to the poor condition of the structures. He also revealed a worrying situation where snakes reportedly enter classrooms, putting the lives of pupils at risk.
“We are appealing to the government, the Education Minister, and the DCE to urgently come to our aid to rehabilitate the wooden structures,” he stated.
The PTA, SMC executives, and students also highlighted several challenges facing the school, including shortage of teachers, inadequate teaching and learning materials, and lack of furniture.
A student explained that three to four pupils are forced to share a single desk, a situation they say is affecting learning outcomes. The students also lamented the absence of computers for ICT lessons.
They are therefore appealing to the government and the Ghana Education Service to urgently intervene by improving infrastructure, deploying more teachers, and providing learning materials to enhance academic work at Matukwa.
