Olibest, VIA Launch Youth Road Safety Initiative

The Olibest Road Safety Organization, in partnership with VIA Safe Mobility For All Young People, has launched a nationwide road safety education project targeted at young people.
The programme, which seeks to help reduce road accidents in the country, was launched on Monday, May 5, 2026, at the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
Chief Executive Officer of Olibest, Richard Kakari, speaking at the event, said the VIA programme is an educational initiative aimed at building a network of schools and training student ambassadors to champion safe mobility among their peers.
According to him, the programme is being implemented globally by TotalEnergies and its affiliates.
He disclosed that eight schools have been selected for the pilot phase of the project, comprising five from the Ashanti Region, two from the Bono Region and one from the Eastern Region.
Mr. Karikari noted that students from the selected schools have already undergone training and are now serving as Road Safety Ambassadors to spearhead awareness creation in their respective schools and communities.
He explained that the ambassadors are chosen in consultation with school authorities and play a critical role in driving the success of the programme.
He stressed that the initiative is aimed at tackling road crashes, which he described as one of the leading causes of death among young people globally.
The VIA programme, he added, also focuses on improving the safety conditions under which students commute to and from school by encouraging peer-to-peer education and active youth participation.
The Chief of Kwaso, Nana Osei Fosu, in his remarks, called for stronger public support for security agencies in their efforts to reduce road accidents.
He stated that although law enforcement agencies are working hard to enforce road traffic regulations, meaningful progress can only be achieved through collective responsibility.
“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility,” he said, urging students to adopt safe road practices and influence others within their communities to do same.
