Bosomtwe Violence: Police Detain Over 60 Suspects

More than 60 persons have been arrested by police following a deadly clash at Asisiriwa in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region.

The incident, which claimed the lives of two men and left three others in critical condition, is said to have involved youth from Asisiriwa and the nearby community of Brodekwan.

Reports indicate that the two victims were lynched during the violence, while the injured victims are currently receiving treatment at a health facility.

The clash, which occurred on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, was allegedly sparked by a relationship dispute between a young woman from Brodekwan and a young man from Asisiriwa, which escalated into a confrontation between the two communities.

Police carried out a dawn operation on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, leading to the arrest of the suspects as part of ongoing investigations.

However, a source told SWIFTNEWS3 that the arrests were indiscriminate, affecting both youth and elderly residents, including some chiefs who were not involved in the incident.

Residents have since raised concerns over the exercise, describing it as a violation of the rights of innocent people.

The suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations.
