Atwima Kwanwoma to Reassess Beneficiaries Ahead of January Deadline

The Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly (AKDA) is set to begin a comprehensive reassessment of beneficiaries under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme before the end of January 2026.
The exercise, initiated by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), seeks to enhance the efficiency of the programme and ensure that social support is directed at households that genuinely qualify for assistance.
Addressing officers involved in the process, the District Social Welfare and Community Development Officer, Madam Hannah Yeboah, explained that a preliminary due diligence exercise would be undertaken by a Ministry team. This will involve visits to selected communities to engage LEAP beneficiaries and evaluate the impact of the programme on their standard of living.
She added that the Ministry’s team had earlier paid a courtesy call on the District Assembly to formally inform management about the upcoming reassessment and to solicit the Assembly’s cooperation.
Officials from the Ministry stressed that the exercise is not meant to indiscriminately remove beneficiaries, but rather to strengthen the programme by ensuring accurate beneficiary data and improved service delivery.
The reassessment is expected to clean up the existing beneficiary database and, where necessary, admit new households that meet the eligibility criteria. Officers from the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development (SWCD) will conduct house-to-house visits in the coming days to interact with beneficiaries and gather relevant information.
To facilitate a smooth exercise, the Assembly has developed a sensitisation plan to educate residents on the importance of the reassessment. This will include announcements through community information centres, outreach at market centres and churches, as well as engagements with organised groups across the district.
The District Chief Executive, Mrs. Grace Agyemang Asamoah, welcomed the Ministry’s delegation and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting the exercise to ensure its successful implementation.
