45-Year-Old Farmer Dies in Suspected Self-Inflicted Shooting at Tewia

A 45-year-old farmer, Anuma Samuel, popularly known as Degue, has died after allegedly shooting himself in the chest at Tewia in the Atiwa East District of the Eastern Region.
The tragic incident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, July 14, 2026, leaving family members and residents of the community in shock.
The deceased, who was married and had seven children, is reported to have left home for his farm shortly after a misunderstanding with his wife over money requested by their youngest child for school.
Speaking to Swiftnews3.com, the deceased’s wife, Madam Adobea Jennette, said their last-born asked her father for money to go to school, but he declined, causing the child to cry uncontrollably.
According to her, the situation angered her husband, who then disciplined the child. She said she appealed to him to remain calm and avoid beating the child, explaining that any injury could result in medical expenses the family could hardly afford.
She disclosed that her husband became upset by her intervention, stopped eating the meal he was having, picked up his firearm and left for the farm.
Madam Jennette said her husband had not exhibited any signs of depression, emotional distress or unusual behaviour prior to the incident, adding that she was later informed that he had allegedly shot himself in the chest.
The police have been notified and the body has been deposited at the morgue pending autopsy and further investigations.
The incident has plunged the Tewia community into mourning, with residents describing the deceased as a hardworking, humble and friendly farmer.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
