DCE Moves To Revive Abandoned Asempanaye Police Station

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Offinso North, Ceasar Ofosu Acheampong, has initiated moves to revive the abandoned Asempanaye Police Station, which has been overtaken by bush, reptiles and game animals years after it was commissioned.
The police facility was commissioned on November 6, 2020 by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo together with the then Member of Parliament for Offinso North, Augustine Collins Ntim.
However, despite the commissioning, the facility has remained unused due to concerns raised by the Ghana Police Service over the project.
Speaking in an interview with DAILY GUIDE, Mr. Acheampong disclosed that he inherited the abandoned project after assuming office on May 16, 2025.
According to him, investigations conducted into the matter revealed that the police service rejected the facility because it was constructed without prior consultation with the security agency.
He explained that some key facilities required for the operation of a police station were omitted during construction, including an armoury, accommodation for officers and other security installations.
“DSP Joseph Gyasi-Agyemang, the then District Police Commander, told me that they rejected the project because the police were not informed and could therefore not carry out the necessary security checks required by law,” he stated.
The DCE further revealed that he contacted the Ashanti Regional Estate Officer of the Ghana Police Service, who also confirmed that the facility lacks some essential requirements needed before it can be operationalised.
Mr. Acheampong indicated that the project was funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), adding that provisions have been made in the district’s 2026 budget for the completion and refurbishment of the facility.
He stressed the need for the police station to become operational to support security operations in the district and nearby communities.
“I want the facility to be operational so we can liaise with the police in Ejura to beef up security and combat criminal activities in the area,” he noted.
The DCE assured residents that the abandoned structure would be given a facelift, including the provision of offices and accommodation for police personnel to enable them effectively discharge their duties.
