Thousands Attend One-Week Observation Of Late Essienimpong Queen Mother

Thousands of mourners thronged Essienimpong on Thursday, June 4, to pay their last respects to the late Queen Mother of the community, Nana Ama Akyeampomaah III, popularly known in public life as Madam Mercy Boadi.

The one-week observation, which coincided with the 40th day since her passing, attracted traditional rulers, politicians, family members, friends, former colleagues and sympathisers from across the country.

Held at the Methodist School Park in Essienimpong, the event saw a massive turnout as mourners gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of the respected Queen Mother, who passed away at the age of 68.

The Chief of Essienimpong, Nana Kwaku Appiah Nwanwani, who served as the chief mourner, led the traditional rites and paid tribute to the late Queen Mother, describing her as a pillar of support to the community and a committed custodian of tradition.

Also present was the Member of Parliament for Ejisu Constituency, Hon. Kwabena Boateng, who joined family members and mourners in honouring the memory of the deceased.

Among the traditional leaders who attended the event were the Essienimponghene, Hemanhene, Fumasuahene, Sekyerehene and several other chiefs from neighbouring communities.

The gathering also featured a strong representation of queen mothers, including the Tafohemaa, Abodomhemaa, Apeaduhemaa and Aporomasehemaa, who came to commiserate with the bereaved family.

The family was led by the head of the family, Abusuapanin Agyapong. The widower, Mr. Augustine Manu Boahene, together with the children, including Evelyn Manu Boahene and Gloria Asantewaa Manu, received mourners and expressed appreciation for the overwhelming support shown to the family.

Nana Ama Akyeampomaah III was born on April 10, 1959, at Essienimpong. She was the daughter of Nana Ama Akyeampomaah II, the then Queen Mother of Essienimpong, and Opanin Kwadwo Boadi, both of blessed memory.

She completed her basic education at Essienimpong in 1977 and later attended OLA Training College in Cape Coast, where she qualified as a professional teacher in 1987.

Throughout her distinguished career in education, she taught at Essienimpong, Boankra and Konya-Agona before retiring from active service at Bantama Methodist Primary School in 2019.

Speakers at the event remembered her as a humble, dedicated and compassionate woman who served her people with distinction both as an educationist and a traditional leader.

Her passing, they noted, has created a vacuum in the Essienimpong traditional area, but her legacy of service, leadership and commitment to education will continue to inspire future generations.
