Barekese Water Treatment Plant Repairs Completed Ahead of Schedule

Residents of Kumasi and its adjoining communities can expect the restoration of regular water supply following the successful completion of repair works on the transmission pipeline at the Barekese Water Treatment Plant.

According to a statement issued by Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Ashanti Region, the repair works were completed at 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, significantly ahead of the scheduled completion date.

The company indicated that production at the treatment plant has resumed, paving the way for the gradual restoration of water supply to affected areas within the Kumasi Metropolitan Area and surrounding communities.

Management of GWL attributed the early completion of the project to the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of its technical and operational teams, who worked around the clock to ensure that the repairs were completed within the shortest possible time.

The company also expressed gratitude to customers, stakeholders, and the general public for their patience, understanding, and cooperation during the period of the shutdown and repair exercise.

GWL reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and sustainable water services to consumers across the Ashanti Region and assured the public that it would continue to implement proactive measures aimed at improving service delivery.

The completion of the repair works comes as a relief to thousands of residents and businesses that were affected by the temporary interruption in water supply caused by the pipeline fault.
