Woman Grabbed Over Threats Against Mahama

A woman accused of threatening President John Dramani Mahama and making offensive comments against him in viral TikTok videos has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service.

The suspect, identified as Mahama Aminat, also known as Akosua Serwaa Minat, was arrested by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) in collaboration with the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department.

According to the police, the suspect appeared in several videos circulating on social media insulting the President, threatening his life and allegedly inciting others to attack both the President and his wife.

Police said the videos gained widespread attention online, prompting investigations and a subsequent intelligence-led operation.

The suspect was arrested on May 20, 2026 at Sekyere Zongo in the Sekyere Kumawu District of the Ashanti Region.

She is currently in police custody assisting investigations and is expected to be put before court.

The Ghana Police Service says it remains committed to dealing with persons who use social media platforms to spread threats, offensive conduct and acts capable of disturbing public peace and national security.
