Fire Guts Kejetia Clothing Stall

A fire outbreak at the No Weapon Building near Kejetia Market in the Kumasi Metropolis has destroyed several bales of second-hand clothing.

The fire, which broke out around 2:55 p.m., sent traders and shoppers into a state of panic as thick smoke billowed from one of the stalls within the busy market enclave.

According to eyewitnesses, the affected stall was heavily stocked with bales of used clothing when the fire started. Some traders quickly attempted to extinguish the flames before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived at the scene.

Firefighters from the Kejetia Market Fire Station responded swiftly to distress calls and were later reinforced by officers from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Fire Station.

Their timely intervention helped contain the blaze and prevented it from spreading to nearby stalls and shops.

Information gathered indicates that about five heavily packed bales of second-hand clothing were destroyed by the fire, while other items were successfully salvaged.

Although the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, some traders suspect that a discarded cigarette may have triggered the incident, especially as the affected stall was reportedly not connected to electricity.

Speaking after the incident, DOIII Ebenezer Opoku, Fire Commander at Kejetia Market, disclosed that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.

No injuries or deaths were recorded.
