Two Get 20 Years for Motorbike Robbery

The Bekwai Circuit Court has sentenced two men to 20 years’ imprisonment each for robbing a 16-year-old boy of his motorbike at Edwenase, near Jacobu, in the Ashanti Region.
The convicts, Emmanuel Adams, a galamsey operator, and Vincent Aidoo, alias Kakai, an Okada rider, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.
The court, presided over by His Honour Isaac Apietu, handed down the sentences after the two men appeared before it. ASP Lloyd Baidoo prosecuted the case.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on October 4, 2026, when the victim, Bismark Boafo, engaged the services of the two men to transport them to Mile 9 on his unregistered Haojin motorbike.
The prosecution said the teenager had earlier transported his mother, Madam Amonoo Gyamfua, from Edwenase to Atabrakoso before the two accused persons hired him for the trip.
However, upon reaching the outskirts of Edwenase, Adams allegedly removed his slippers and deliberately left them on the road before asking the victim to stop so that Aidoo could pick them up.
When the teenager stopped, Adams allegedly used an electric shocker to shock him on the neck, causing him to fall from the motorbike.
The victim managed to remove the ignition key before fleeing into the bush as the two men chased him. He later returned to the scene and discovered that his motorbike had been taken away.
The victim subsequently reported the incident to the Jacobu Police on October 5, 2026, accompanied by his father, Kofi Boafo.
Police investigations led to the arrest of Adams, who reportedly mentioned Aidoo as his accomplice. Aidoo was later arrested while in possession of the stolen motorbike, which was retrieved by the police.
The prosecution further told the court that both men admitted the offences in their respective investigation caution statements in the presence of an independent witness.
They were subsequently charged and brought before the Bekwai Circuit Court, where they pleaded guilty and were each sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment.
