Owabi Water Treatment Plant Shut Down Temporarily, GWL Assures Public

The Ghana Water Limited (GWL) in the Ashanti Region has temporarily shut down the Owabi Water Treatment Plant following a technical fault affecting operations.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, GWL explained that the shutdown occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2026, after engineers detected a problem with the high-lift pump that draws water from the plant’s clear well.
The company said its technical team is working around the clock to fix the fault and restore water production as soon as possible.
As a result of the shutdown, several communities within the Abuakwa District and its environs are experiencing interruptions in water supply. The affected areas include Asuoyeboah, Tanoso, Apatrapa, Pokukrom, Bokankye, Nyankyereniase, Esaase, Akropong, Mfensi, Twedie, Abuakwa, Maakro, Mim, Nkwakom, Nkawie, Toase, Afari, Wioso, Mpasatia, Abrepo, Asuobonteng, Bronikrom, parts of Bohyen, the Military Barracks, and other communities supplied by the Owabi Water Treatment Plant.
Management of Ghana Water Limited has apologised to customers for the inconvenience and assured residents that every effort is being made to restore water supply within the shortest possible time.
The statement was signed by Mr. Ebenezer Padi Narh, Regional Public Relations and Communications Officer of GWL for the Ashanti Region.
