Falconets Outclass Black Princesses to Clinch WAFU B Supremacy

Ghana’s Black Princesses were handed a 3-0 defeat by archrivals Nigeria in their final group fixture of the WAFU B U-20 Girls Cup, ending their campaign in second place.

The Falconets proved too strong for the young Ghanaians, displaying superior pace, precision, and tactical awareness throughout the encounter. Despite creating a few early openings, the Princesses failed to convert their chances — a lapse that cost them dearly.

Nigeria opened the scoring in the 15th minute through a superbly taken free kick by Janet Akeremkowei. Alaba Olabiyi doubled the lead just eight minutes later before another strike late in the game sealed a convincing win for the Falconets.

Reacting after the match, Ghana’s head coach, Charles Sampson, admitted the result was disappointing but insisted his side would take the lessons in stride.

“This tournament has been a big test for the girls,” he said. “We’ve seen where we need to improve, and that will guide us in our preparations for future competitions.”

The defeat marks Ghana’s second loss in the competition, following their earlier 3-1 setback in the group opener. Despite the result, the Princesses’ spirited displays throughout the tournament have given hope for stronger performances ahead.
