The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in connection with the robbery attack that led to the death of Berekum Chelsea F.C. footballer, Dominic Frimpong.

A police source confirmed the development to SWIFTNEWS3, stating that the arrests were carried out during an intelligence-led operation by specialised police teams targeting those behind the deadly incident.

According to the source, one of the suspects engaged police officers in a gun battle during the operation. He sustained gunshot injuries, was overpowered, and subsequently arrested. The suspect is currently under police guard receiving treatment at a medical facility.

The second suspect, believed to be the leader of the criminal gang, was arrested in a separate but coordinated operation.

The incident occurred on Sunday night, April 12, 2026, along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District, when the Berekum Chelsea team was travelling from Samreboi to Berekum.

The team bus, carrying about 30 players and officials, was ambushed by six armed men, three of whom were wielding pump-action guns.
