Man In Custody For Allegedly Driving Off With Police Armoured Vehicle
A young man, identified as Ebenezer Frimpong, is in police custody in the Ashanti Region for allegedly driving off with a police armoured vehicle at Nkawie Market.
The incident reportedly occurred when a police driver briefly stepped away to purchase medication at a nearby pharmacy, leaving the vehicle’s ignition on.
According to a police source, the driver had left the engine running when the suspect allegedly quickly jumped into the armoured vehicle and sped off from the scene.
The source expressed shock over the incident, questioning the suspect’s actions.
“I don’t really understand why the suspect would just jump into a vehicle belonging to the police and drive off. Why is he not normal,” the source quizzed.
A police patrol team was immediately alerted and mounted a chase to intercept the stolen vehicle.
The pursuit ended at Mim, near Abuakwa in Kumasi, where a SWAT team successfully arrested the suspect.
The armoured vehicle has since been retrieved and secured.
Ebenezer Frimpong is assisting police with ongoing investigations into the incident.
