Nurse Baffoe Granted GH¢100K Bail

Senior Nursing Officer, Salomey Awiti Baffoe, has been granted GH¢100,000 bail in connection with a case in which she is accused of abetting the publication and circulation of alleged false news on social media.
The court ordered Ms Baffoe, 40, to secure two sureties, who must be civil servants earning monthly salaries of not less than GH¢3,000.
Ms Baffoe had pleaded not guilty to the charge and remained in custody as the case progressed.
Her prolonged detention had sparked concern among members of her family, who appealed to the government to facilitate her release, saying her absence was taking a toll on her children.
The latest bail order followed an earlier refusal by the High Court to grant her bail after prosecutors argued that she was still required to assist with investigations and could interfere with witnesses.
The case had also suffered delays, with proceedings adjourned to October 5 because the presiding magistrate was attending a judges and magistrates conference.
Ms Baffoe is alleged to have been involved in the publication and circulation of false information on social media.
The prosecution is expected to continue presenting its case when proceedings resume.
Her lawyers, meanwhile, maintain that she is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Her release is subject to the fulfilment of the bail conditions imposed by the court.
