3 Killed, 20 Injured In Kumasi -Accra Highway Crash

Three persons lost their lives while 20 others sustained injuries in a gory accident at Odumasi Ohene Nkwanta near Rider Steel and Iron Company on the Kumasi–Accra Highway.

The fatal collision involved a Mitsubishi Outlander with registration number DV G8180 and a Benz Sprinter minibus with registration number GE 6024-22.

Confirming the incident, the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DOIII Peter Addai, disclosed that the accident occurred on Monday, May 11, 2026.

According to him, the Fire Service rescue team received a distress call at about 7:55 a.m. and quickly rushed to the scene to save the victims.

He explained that before the rescue team arrived, some bystanders had already rescued 12 victims, while the officers successfully rescued the remaining eight trapped passengers from the mangled vehicles.

The injured victims were conveyed to Hope Care Hospital, Asante Akim Central Municipal Hospital and RIS Hospital by an ambulance with registration number GV 589-20 and other vehicles for medical treatment.

The bodies of the three deceased males were later retrieved and handed over to the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service for investigations and other necessary procedures.

Both vehicles involved in the crash were severely damaged.

Meanwhile, the cause of the accident is yet to be established as investigations continue.

The Fire Service also praised the rescue team, led by LFM Tenkorang, for their swift response and professionalism.
