Black Princesses Qualify For 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup
Ghana Black Princesses have qualified for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup to be hosted in Poland after holding Uganda U-20 Women’s National Team to a 1-1 draw in the second leg of the final qualifying round in Kampala.
The Black Princesses displayed resilience and determination to secure qualification, earning a 3-2 aggregate victory after winning the first leg 2-1 in Accra before travelling to Uganda.
Uganda got off to a flying start and opened the scoring in the sixth minute through Sylvia Kabene, putting the hosts in a strong position as they searched for a comeback. The Ugandans maintained their lead for much of the game and frustrated the Ghanaian side with disciplined defending.
Ghana’s task became even more difficult in the 68th minute when Margaret Yeboah was shown a red card, reducing the Black Princesses to ten players. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Ghanaian ladies remained composed and pushed forward in search of the crucial equaliser.
Head coach Charles Sampson responded with tactical substitutions in the second half, introducing Sarah Nyarko and Priscilla Mensah for Ivy Osei Owusu and Agnes Yeboah to inject fresh energy into the side.
The breakthrough finally came in the 78th minute when Linda Owusu Ansah produced a moment of brilliance. The talented midfielder scored directly from a corner kick, stunning the home crowd and levelling the match at 1-1.
Ghana thereafter defended resolutely and held on until the final whistle to secure qualification for the global tournament.
The qualification marks Ghana’s eighth appearance at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, having previously featured in the 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2022, and 2024 editions.
The 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to take place in Poland from September 5 to September 27, 2026, with some of the best young female football talents across the world expected to participate in the tournament.
