‘Sexy’ Mason Jailed 15 Years For Defilement

A 23-year-old mason who defiled a four-year-old girl at Manso Afedie has been jailed 15 years by the Bekwai Circuit Court.
Ebenezer Birikwai, also known as Immortal, changed his plea to guilty when he appeared before presiding judge His Honour Isaac Apietu.
Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Eric Twum told the court that the incident occurred on April 16, 2026, around midday.
The court heard that Birikwai saw the victim playing with other children in a corridor at Manso Afedie, where they both live. He handed his phone to the children to watch a game and sat on a bench close by.
While the other children were distracted, he placed the four-year-old girl on his lap, shifted her underwear aside, pulled down his shorts, and had sexual intercourse with her.
The victim’s aunt became suspicious after noticing the child’s facial expression and pulled her off the accused’s lap. She found the accused’s penis erect and inside the girl, with seminal fluid on the child’s thighs.
Her shouts attracted residents, including the victim’s mother. The Unit Committee Chairman alerted the Manso Adubia Police, who arrived in time to save Birikwai from mob action.
He was taken to the Adubia Police Station and later transferred to the Divisional DOVVSU office.
A medical examination conducted at St. Martin’s Catholic Hospital, Agroyesum, confirmed the assault. Dr. (Mrs.) Patience S. Marfo endorsed the police medical form, noting that the victim’s hymen was broken.
In his caution statement, witnessed by an independent party, Birikwai admitted the offence and begged for forgiveness.
He was charged under Section 101 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), as amended by Act 554, which deals with defilement of a child under 16 years.
The court convicted him on his own plea and sentenced him to 15 years’ imprisonment.
The name of the victim has been withheld.
