MP Cuts Sod for Four-Storey Dormitory at Akrofrom SHTS

The Member of Parliament for the Adansi Akrofuom constituency, Joseph Azumah Constituency has cut sod for the construction of a four-storey boys’ dormitory block at the Akrofrom Senior High Technical School to help address the school’s severe infrastructural challenges.

The project forms part of efforts by the MP to improve conditions at the school, which has been struggling with inadequate accommodation for students.

According to Hon. Azumah, the modern dormitory facility will include housemaster’s quarters on each floor, a large ironing room, washing rooms, washrooms and other essential amenities to ensure a comfortable stay for students. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, the MP expressed concern about the current conditions in the school’s dormitories, describing them as unacceptable.

“The situation in the school is very terrible, especially when it comes to accommodation. What we have here can best be described as ‘prison-state accommodation,’ and that is not the kind of environment we should allow our students to live in,” he stated.

Hon. Azumah further indicated that the dormitory project is only one of several interventions planned to improve infrastructure in the school.

Currently, due to the lack of adequate dormitory facilities, some students are forced to sleep in an uncompleted building while attending classes, a situation that has raised serious concerns about their safety and welfare.

The Headmaster of the school, Osei Owusu, expressed profound appreciation to the MP for the initiative, describing the project as timely.

“We are very grateful to the MP for this intervention. It has come at the right time because the school is facing a serious infrastructural deficit. Our student population has increased significantly, and the existing structures cannot accommodate all of them,” he said.

He further noted that even the available dormitory structures are in poor condition.

Hon. Azumah also revealed that since assuming office as Member of Parliament, he has devoted about 70 percent of his Common Fund and personal benefits towards educational development in the constituency.

The sod-cutting ceremony was attended by the District Chief Executive, traditional authorities, students, teachers, and community members who gathered to witness the commencement of the much-needed project.
