Trotro Mate Dies in Tragic Crash at Kumasi’s Tech Junction
A tragic accident at the Tech Junction station in Kumasi has resulted in the death of a commercial vehicle conductor following a collision involving three trotros.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred when the mate jumped out of a moving vehicle as it approached the station to register for the next passenger load. He reportedly lost his balance, fell onto the road and was run over by the same vehicle.
The vehicle subsequently crashed into another trotro that was loading passengers at the station. Moments later, a third commercial vehicle following behind also ran over the fallen mate.
“He jumped out of the moving van to register, but he slipped and fell. Their own vehicle hit him, and as he tried to stand up, another van behind also ran over him,” an eyewitness explained.
The victim was rushed to the Tech Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Other passengers involved in the incident escaped unhurt.
“Apart from the mate, no one else was injured. It is very shocking because this is the first time such an accident has happened here,” another eyewitness told Swiftnews3.
The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has towed all vehicles involved in the crash. Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.
