Kotoko Cruise Past Basake Holy Stars to Go Second on GPL Table

Asante Kotoko produced a dominant display to defeat Basake Holy Stars 3–0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in their Week 20 encounter of the Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors asserted their authority early and were rewarded in the 30th minute when they broke the deadlock through a well-taken penalty by Samba O’Neil Ndongani. The spot kick was awarded after Kotoko midfielder Dauda Saaka was brought down in the penalty area by Holy Stars defender Blay, who was attempting to clear the ball.

Kotoko controlled proceedings after taking the lead, piling pressure on the visitors and comfortably seeing out the first half with the advantage intact.

The home side doubled their lead in the 74th minute through substitute Albert Amoah. A teasing lobbed pass from Hubert Gyau found Amoah in the box, and the forward showed great athleticism to finish with a spectacular bicycle kick, sending the Baba Yara crowd into raptures.

Moments later, striker Kwame Opoku added the third goal with another stunning bicycle kick, further igniting celebrations among the home supporters and sealing an emphatic victory for Kotoko.

Basake Holy Stars made attempts to pull one back, but Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara stood firm, producing crucial saves to deny the visitors a consolation goal.

The convincing win lifts Asante Kotoko to second place on the Ghana Premier League table with 35 points. The Kumasi-based side will next travel to Sogakope to face Hearts of Lions in their upcoming fixture.
