The new campaign, which kicks off on the weekend of September 12, 2025, promises thrilling rivalries, fresh match-ups, and the return of iconic regional derbies.

Gold Stars Begin Title Defense at Home

Defending champions Gold Stars FC will launch their title defense at Duns Park in Bibiani, where they host Bechem United in what’s expected to be a pulsating season opener. After a dominant 2024/25 campaign, Gold Stars will be keen to maintain their grip at the top amid renewed challenges from traditional giants and ambitious newcomers.

Hearts of Oak vs Hohoe United Headlines Match Day 1

Accra Hearts of Oak, determined to make a stronger push for the title after a turbulent season, will open their account with a home game against Premier League debutants Hohoe United. Meanwhile, their arch-rivals Asante Kotoko SC face a tricky away fixture against Berekum Chelsea, setting the stage for an early test of their title credentials.

Debutants and Returnees Face Early Challenges

Newcomers and returnees alike have been handed stern opening assignments. Swedru All Blacks FC will travel to face Nations FC, while Eleven Wonders FC make the journey to face Basake Holy Stars. Heart of Lions, who finished runners-up last season, begin their season at home against Dreams FC, as Karela United lock horns with Aduana FC.

Super Clash Set for Match Day 5

The first leg of the iconic clash between Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko SC will take place on Match Day 5 at the Accra Sports Stadium, with the return encounter scheduled for Match Day 22 at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. As always, both fixtures are expected to draw massive crowds and intense media attention.

Regional Derbies Return to Spotlight

The 2025/26 fixture list brings back some historic regional rivalries:

The Volta Derby returns as Hohoe United host Heart of Lions on Match Day 17, with the reverse fixture set for Match Day 34 in Kpando, closing the league season.

Brong Ahafo rivalries will spice up the calendar with Young Apostles facing Bechem United (MD5), Berekum Chelsea (MD7), and Aduana FC (MD16), with reverse fixtures on MD22, MD24, and MD33 respectively.

Berekum Chelsea meet Bechem United on Match Day 17 and Eleven Wonders on Match Day 16.

Aduana FC and Bechem United renew their rivalry on Match Day 9, with Aduana vs Berekum Chelsea coming on Match Day 11.

Western Showdowns

Western Region powerhouses Medeama SC and FC Samartex will go head-to-head on Match Day 6 in Tarkwa, with the reverse fixture on Match Day 23. Medeama also face Basake Holy Stars on MD15, while Samartex will test their mettle against the same opponents on Match Day 14, marking another Western Derby to watch out for.

Season Timeline and FIFA Calendar Alignment

The 2025/26 season will run until the weekend of May 23/24, 2026, giving players and national teams ample time to prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off on June 11, 2026. The fixture planning is aligned with FIFA’s global calendar, ensuring domestic football wraps up before the international spectacle begins.

Ahead of the new season, the GFA Congress is slated for Tuesday, August 12, 2025, where final touches and regulatory matters will be addressed to ensure a smooth start to the campaign.

Match Days Set for Weekends, Midweek Slots for Postponed Games

Just like the previous season, league matches will primarily be held on weekends, with selected midweek slots reserved for outstanding fixtures and rescheduled matches. Fans can expect the usual drama, unpredictability, and excitement that define Ghana’s top-tier football.
