Asuosunso Bankrogya Residents Cry Over Potable Water, Health Centre and Infrastructure Deficits

Residents of Asuosunso Bankrogya, a cocoa-farming community in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region, are appealing to the government for urgent intervention as they grapple with severe water challenges and other developmental setbacks.
According to the residents, they are compelled to walk over three kilometers daily to access potable water after illegal mining activities (galamsey) rendered their primary water source — a local river — unsafe for consumption.
Residents lamented that despite their significant contribution to the cocoa industry, their living conditions remain dire.
“This is a community that produces several tons of cocoa every year, yet we are suffering. We don’t have water, no health centre, and our only bridge has been left abandoned,” a resident said.
The community has therefore appealed to the government and relevant authorities to come to their aid by drilling boreholes to provide clean drinking water, constructing a health centre to cater for basic medical needs, and rehabilitating the dilapidated bridge linking them to nearby towns.
The residents say such interventions will not only improve their living standards but also support their efforts in sustaining cocoa production for the country.
