THE METHODIST CHURCH GHANA CALLS FOR BOLD ACTION AGAINST ILLEGAL MINING

The Methodist Church Ghana has called on the government to adopt bold, decisive, and uncompromising measures to combat illegal mining (galamsey), which continues to destroy the environment and threaten national stability.
At the 64th Annual Synod of the Kumasi Diocese, held under the theme “Discipleship: Growing into Christian Maturity,” the Kumasi Diocesan Bishop delivered a passionate appeal to state actors.
“To address galamsey effectively, government actions must be bold, decisive and uncompromising,” the Bishop stated.
“The ruthless impunity of illegal miners who hold farmers, families and the entire nation hostage must be met with zero tolerance from the government.”
The Church called for a new era of leadership within key government agencies, robust enforcement of mining laws, and a relentless national commitment to protect Ghana’s environment.
The Church demands leadership that is ready to act—not just speak—on this existential crisis
Bishop added, “All hands are needed on deck to safeguard our nation’s future.”
