Police Foil MoMo Robbery, Kill Two Suspects in Tema

Two suspected armed robbers have been shot dead by police in Tema after a Mobile Money (MoMo) robbery operation was foiled, leaving a female vendor injured.

The incident occurred on Monday morning, April 13, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m. at Aba Fosuah Plaza in Community 5, where the victim sustained a gunshot wound to her leg while attempting to resist the attackers.

According to a statement issued by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Police Command, the suspects arrived at the scene on a motorbike. One of them approached the vendor under the pretext of conducting a “cash-out” transaction.

As the vendor reached for her phone, the suspect pulled a pistol and demanded her bag of cash. The situation quickly escalated into a struggle when the victim resisted. The rider then joined his accomplice, and in the course of the scuffle, the pillion rider shot the vendor in the leg, enabling them to seize the cash and flee.

A police patrol team from the Regional Operations Unit, which had been strategically deployed in the area, swiftly responded and intercepted the suspects near the Tema General Hospital enclave.

The suspects, however, ignored police orders to stop and sped off, leading officers on a chase towards the Smart Hotel area. In a bid to escape, they opened fire on the pursuing police team, who returned fire, hitting both suspects and causing them to fall off their motorbike.

They were subsequently pronounced dead.

A search conducted on them led to the recovery of GH¢11,390.00, believed to be proceeds from the robbery. Police also retrieved a black 9mm Luger pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition, three Android phones, assorted SIM cards, a talisman, and a Ghana Card belonging to the victim.

The injured vendor is currently receiving treatment at a medical facility and is reported to be in stable condition.

Police also recovered an empty shell from the crime scene, suspected to have been fired from the weapon used by the suspects.

The Tema Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order and has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
