Major Health Boost As Eni Ghana Signs MoU With GHS

Eni Ghana, together with its OCTP partners—Vitol Upstream Ghana Ltd and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC)—has entered into a new partnership with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) aimed at improving healthcare delivery and emergency response systems in the Western Region.
The collaboration, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), is expected to significantly strengthen primary healthcare services in remote and underserved communities, with a special focus on women and children.
The intervention is projected to directly benefit about 180,000 people, with the potential to reach as many as 380,000 residents across the region.
The four-year programme, spanning 2026 to 2029, will prioritise the upgrading of health facilities, improved access to reliable electricity and safe water, and the enhancement of maternal, newborn and child health services.
It will also focus on building the capacity of healthcare workers in critical areas including Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC), clinical governance, safe surgery, and vaccine cold-chain management to improve service delivery outcomes.
Beyond infrastructure and clinical support, the initiative will roll out community-based health education campaigns on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), waste management, vector control and nutrition, aimed at promoting healthier living practices.
A strong emphasis has also been placed on sustainability, with community-based committees expected to play a key role in ensuring ownership and long-term impact of the programme.
Eni Ghana noted that the initiative forms part of its long-standing commitment to community health development and Ghana’s broader agenda of achieving Universal Health Coverage.
The company, which has been operating in Ghana since 2009, currently produces about 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day and serves as operator of the OCTP project. It holds a 44.4 per cent stake, with Vitol Upstream Ghana Ltd owning 35.6 per cent and the GNPC holding 20 per cent.
