Ghanaians Cry For Bawumia – LPG

The General Secretary of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Jerry Owusu Appauh, has claimed that many Ghanaians are dissatisfied with the current political situation and are yearning for the leadership style of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Mr Appauh made the claim on Saturday, October 3, 2026, when he delivered a solidarity message on behalf of the LPG at the NPP National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
According to him, the current situation in the country has left many Ghanaians disappointed and looking back at Dr Bawumia’s leadership.
“Ghanaians are already disappointed. Ghanaians have already given up. Ghanaians are crying. And Mr Flagbearer, the former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Ghanaians say they miss you and they want your style and your leadership,” he stated.
Mr Appauh said his remarks were not intended simply to praise the NPP flagbearer but were based on what he described as his assessment of the prevailing political situation.
“I’m not here just to sing praises, but I’m just trying to be factual,” he said.
Calls For NPP Unity
The LPG General Secretary also urged members of the NPP to put their differences aside and support the party’s newly elected national leadership.
He appealed to members who were unhappy with developments within the party to accept the outcome of the conference and rally behind the elected national officers.
“All NPPs, both here and away; all NPPs, both happy and unhappy, we are telling you, this is not the time,” he said.
Mr Appauh cautioned NPP members against what he described as distractions from former members and personalities who have become critical of the party.
He mentioned former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen and former Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, saying their public interventions could contribute to divisions within the NPP.
“To be very fair and sincere, somebody like Hon. Alan Kyerematen and Dr Frimpong-Boateng are out there and a lot of people are listening to them. And that is causing some kind of problem,” he stated.
He further urged NPP members to support whichever candidates were elected to lead the party.
“Whoever you are voting for, you have to be happy that you are having such leaders to lead you. Don’t pay attention to those who are going to distract you,” he said.
Appauh Criticises NDC
Mr Appauh also criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) delegation for leaving the NPP conference grounds before delivering its solidarity message.
The delegation, led by NDC Deputy National Women’s Organiser Dzifa Tsegah, left the venue after waiting for several hours for proceedings to begin.
Mr Appauh expressed disappointment in NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey and National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah over the representatives sent to the conference.
“I must say I am disappointed in my colleagues, General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey and the Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for nominating people who do not have patience for democracy to represent a party like NDC at a programme of this magnitude,” he said.
He said the NDC’s participation should have been used as an opportunity to promote political tolerance and strengthen Ghana’s democratic culture.
“Your people came and they got angry and left. What a shame to a political party like NDC,” he stated.
‘Vote Against NDC’
Mr Appauh further urged Ghanaians to assess the NDC government’s performance and its handling of campaign promises ahead of future elections.
He alleged that the government had failed to fulfil its campaign promises and accused it of turning Ghana into a “cocaine hub.”
He therefore called on Ghanaians to critically assess the government’s record and handling of national issues when making decisions in future elections.
