UK-Based Ghanaian Reshapes Mahame–Asamankama Road

A United Kingdom-based Ghanaian, Mr. Richard Agyare, has funded the reshaping of the deplorable Mahame–Asamankama road and other adjoining roads in the Mahame community in the Offinso South District of the Ashanti Region.

The intervention has brought relief to residents and motorists who have endured years of difficulties using the roads, with residents also linking the poor road condition and lack of streetlights to robbery and other criminal activities in the area.

Speaking to Swiftnews3, the Assembly Member for the Asamankama–Mahame Electoral Area, Isaac Oduro Duncan, popularly known as Honourable Alaska, said residents were grateful to Mr. Agyare for coming to their aid.

He said the Mahame–Asamankama road had become a major security concern, particularly at night, as armed robbers and other criminals allegedly took advantage of the poor condition of the road and darkness to attack residents.

According to him, several residents had been robbed of their mobile phones and other belongings, while some had also been stabbed and beaten by suspected criminals.

He said the situation had also affected healthcare delivery, particularly for pregnant women who sometimes struggled to access health facilities when they went into labour.

Mr. Duncan explained that the stretch from Mahame State B to Eno Mary Blessed Child had become virtually unmotorable because of numerous potholes, making it difficult for motorists to access the community.

He, however, said the reshaping of the road, although not yet fully completed, had significantly improved access and brought relief to drivers and residents.

On behalf of the people of Mahame and Asamankama, he expressed gratitude to Mr. Agyare for his benevolence and prayed for God’s blessings upon him.

He appealed to Mr. Agyare, the government and other stakeholders to support the installation of streetlights along the road and within the communities to improve security.

He also called for the construction of culverts over the gutters that would be created along the road to prevent erosion and protect the newly reshaped road.

Agyare Has Fulfilled His Promise

Nana Opoku Ware, also known as Nana Paul, the Agyeimprah Nifahene and uncle of Mr. Agyare, praised him for fulfilling his promise to the communities.

Nana Opoku Ware said he, together with the traditional authorities, had initially approached residents to contribute money towards fixing the road before deciding to seek assistance from Mr. Agyare.

“I am very proud and thankful to my nephew for honouring his pledge. I approached him to help his community by reshaping the road and, by the grace of God, when I called on him, he did not turn his back against us,” he said.

He disclosed that arrangements would be made to refund residents who contributed their money towards the project.

According to him, every contribution would be properly accounted for to ensure transparency and prevent anyone from claiming that their money had been used to finance the road project.

Nana Opoku Ware said residents had suffered for about 17 years because of the poor state of the road.

He recalled that armed robbery and other criminal activities had been a major concern, particularly at night when motorists avoided the road.

He cited the recent stabbing of a young woman along the Mahame–Asamankama road, saying residents were sometimes forced to walk home in darkness because vehicles were reluctant to use the road at night.

He expressed gratitude to the chiefs and elders of Mahame and Asamankama for their support and blessing for the project.

More Development Projects Coming

Meanwhile, the Project Coordinator and Special Assistant to Mr. Richard Agyare, James Nkansah, popularly known in media circles as Principal, said the road project formed part of Mr. Agyare’s broader vision to contribute to the development of Offinso, particularly the Offinso South area.

He said Mr. Agyare, a native of Offinso, had already undertaken several development interventions in the area.

These, he said, included the construction of toilet facilities and boreholes, installation and fixing of streetlights, payment of school fees for students and support for widows and other needy people.

Mr. Nkansah also disclosed that Mr. Agyare had organised job training programmes for more than 5,000 people.

He further revealed that Mr. Agyare had supported patients who had been discharged from St. Patrick Hospital but were unable to settle their medical bills, with one such intervention exceeding GH¢5,000.

According to him, the decision to reshape the Mahame–Asamankama road was aimed at improving mobility, promoting development and giving residents peace of mind as they went about their daily activities.

Mr. Nkansah assured residents that more roads within the constituency would be reshaped as part of Mr. Agyare’s ongoing development initiatives.
