Obuasi SHTS Headmaster Attacked Over Alleged Baby Burial

Tension has gripped the Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) in the Ashanti Region after students allegedly attacked the school’s headmaster, Mr Abdulai. Zakaria, over claims that a baby had been buried on the school compound.

The headmaster reportedly sustained serious injuries during the attack and was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for medical attention.

According to sources within the school, the incident occurred after some students claimed they saw the headmaster at about 3:00 a.m. on Monday near a dumpsite close to one of the dormitories.

The students reportedly alleged that the headmaster was carrying an object wrapped in a white cloth.

The source said the students later went to the area to find out what had happened and claimed they discovered what appeared to be the remains of a newborn baby in a covered hole.

The development reportedly angered some students, who allegedly confronted and attacked the headmaster when he later visited the area with some teachers.

The Ghana Police Service has since taken control of the school and commenced investigations into the incident.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Jantuah, host of the morning programme on Ahenfie TV/FM, monitored by Swiftnews3, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi, Faustilove Appiah Kannin, confirmed the incident.

She said the headmaster was receiving treatment at KATH due to the injuries he sustained during the attack.

The MCE said security had been strengthened at the school to restore calm and prevent further disturbances.

Checks by Swiftnews3 indicate that boarding students have been asked to remain in their dormitories, while day students have been instructed not to report to school.

The MCE further disclosed that the Municipal Directorate of Education and other stakeholders would meet to discuss the situation and determine the way forward.

She added that the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, had been briefed about the incident.

Meanwhile, authorities are yet to officially confirm the identity of the alleged remains or establish the circumstances surrounding their discovery.

Police investigations are ongoing, and further details are expected as authorities work to establish what transpired.
