Adwoa Safo Shooting: Six in Police Custody

Police have arrested six private security guards in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, at Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region.

The arrests followed preliminary investigations into the incident, which occurred on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Accra Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, a search conducted after the arrests led to the retrieval of five pump-action guns, a Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and communication equipment.

The statement said personnel from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate, who were on special duty, responded to a distress call from a residence at Kwabenya.

Upon arrival, police established that a ceremony was being held at the residence of Mr. Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, also known as Akofena, when Hon. Adwoa Safo reportedly arrived and requested access to the premises but was denied entry.

Investigators further revealed that armed security personnel stationed at the residence allegedly opened fire during the incident, leaving the former lawmaker injured. Her vehicle also sustained multiple gunshot marks.

The suspects, together with the recovered weapons and other exhibits, have since been transferred to the Police Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations.

The police said efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest all other persons connected to the shooting.

The latest development comes as investigators intensify efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring all those involved to justice.
