Heavy Rains Isolate Farming Communities In Sekyere Afram Plains

Several farming communities within the Fumsua Electoral Area in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of the Ashanti Region have been cut off from the rest of the district following heavy rains that submerged major roads and bridges leading to the Sempoa Market.

The flooding brought transportation to a standstill, preventing vehicles from accessing the market and leaving traders and farmers stranded.

Despite the challenges, some traders managed to transport their goods to the market with the assistance of strong young men in the community who carried the items on their backs across the flooded sections.

Residents say the situation has become a recurring problem during the rainy season, affecting trade and agricultural activities in the area. According to them, the Sempoa Market remains the primary commercial centre for several farming communities, making access to the market essential for their economic survival.

They lamented that the poor state of roads and bridges continues to hinder the movement of people and goods, resulting in financial losses for farmers and traders.

Speaking on the situation, the Assembly Member for the Fumsua Electoral Area, Hon. Dramani Mustakilu, described the development as worrying and called for immediate intervention from the government and the District Assembly.

He noted that the worsening condition of the roads is not only disrupting economic activities but also affecting access to essential services, urging authorities to urgently rehabilitate the affected roads and bridges.

Residents are hopeful that swift action will be taken to address the recurring challenge and restore smooth movement within the area.
