CSU Expands Academic Frontiers With New Doctoral Degree

Christian Service University (CSU) has reached a historic milestone with the launch of its first-ever doctoral programme, the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) in Christian Leadership and Management, a bold initiative aimed at producing visionary Christian leaders capable of transforming churches, organisations and society.
The landmark event, held at the university’s auditorium in Kumasi on Monday, June 1, 2026, attracted academics, clergy, policymakers, students, alumni and stakeholders from various sectors who gathered to witness what many described as a new chapter in the institution’s academic journey.
The launch not only marks the introduction of CSU’s first doctoral degree programme but also reinforces the university’s commitment to combining faith, scholarship and leadership development in addressing contemporary societal challenges.

Delivering the keynote address on the theme, “Bridging Scholarship and Practice: The Role of the Doctor of Ministry in Contemporary Church and Societal Leadership,” Chancellor of CSU, Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, underscored the growing need for Christian leaders who are both academically grounded and practically equipped to navigate an increasingly complex world.
According to him, the Doctor of Ministry degree serves as a bridge between theological scholarship and ministerial practice, enabling leaders to apply research-based knowledge to real-life challenges confronting churches, institutions and communities.
“The Doctor of Ministry is not merely an academic qualification. It is a vital leadership formation programme that prepares men and women to serve with wisdom, competence, innovation and hope,” he stated.
Prof. Asante noted that contemporary leaders face numerous challenges, including changing social values, technological disruption, mental health concerns, ethical dilemmas and declining confidence in institutions.
He explained that the programme has been carefully designed to equip participants with the skills needed to analyse these challenges critically and develop practical solutions rooted in biblical principles and sound leadership practices.
He further highlighted the programme’s relevance beyond the walls of the church, stressing that graduates would be empowered to contribute meaningfully to national development, public policy discussions, community transformation initiatives and organisational leadership.
A Vision Beyond Academia
Welcoming participants to the event, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of CSU described the launch as a defining moment in the university’s history and a major step towards expanding its academic influence.
He observed that the Department of Theology, the university’s pioneer academic department, continues to play a leading role in advancing CSU’s mission and vision.
“This is more than the introduction of a new academic programme. It is the unveiling of a vision to raise transformational leaders who will make meaningful contributions to ministry, governance, organisational leadership and national development,” he said.
According to him, the new doctoral programme aligns perfectly with the university’s strategic agenda of expanding graduate education, strengthening research output and providing transformational scholarship anchored in Christian values.
He added that through research, publications, conferences and practical ministry engagement, the programme would contribute to the development of contextual theological and leadership models capable of addressing Africa’s unique challenges.
Open To Professionals Across Disciplines
One of the distinguishing features of the programme is its multidisciplinary approach.
The Doctor of Ministry in Christian Leadership and Management is open not only to theologians and clergy but also to professionals from fields such as medicine, engineering, banking, education, entrepreneurship and public service who desire to integrate Christian values into leadership and management practice.
The three-year programme will be delivered through a flexible hybrid model that combines face-to-face and online learning, with an option for fully online participation.
Students will undertake one year of coursework followed by two years of supervised research culminating in a thesis of between 40,000 and 50,000 words.
University officials say the programme places a strong emphasis on ethical leadership, organisational excellence, practical ministry and social impact.
Applications Open
Applications for the inaugural intake officially opened on June 1 and will close on July 15, 2026.
Prospective applicants can obtain admission forms at a cost of GH¢300.
As CSU embarks on this new academic frontier, university authorities remain confident that the Doctor of Ministry programme will produce a new generation of leaders who combine spiritual maturity, academic excellence and practical wisdom to influence churches, institutions and communities across Ghana and beyond.
With the launch of the D.Min. programme, Christian Service University has once again demonstrated its determination to remain at the forefront of faith-based higher education while contributing significantly to leadership development and societal transformation.
