Police Smash Armed Robbery Syndicate; Security Officers Arrested

The Ghana Police Service has arrested seven suspects, including Police and military officers, in connection with an alleged robbery syndicate operating across Accra, Tema, Anyinam, Kumasi and Takoradi.
The suspects are believed to have carried out a series of robberies involving cash, gold and mercury, using fake security operations to attack their victims.
The arrests followed investigations launched by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) after an Ivorian investor, Mousa Bamba, reported a robbery incident at Dzorwulu in Accra.
According to Police investigations, the investor was allegedly lured to the area under the pretext of purchasing six kilograms of gold worth US$450,000.
The suspects, posing as Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers and military personnel, reportedly attacked him at gunpoint and bolted with the money and valuables.
Initial investigations led to the arrest of Mohammed Umaro, also known as Alhaji, and Gabriel Sewornu, alias Dangote.
Further investigations implicated two military officers — Lance Corporal Eugene Akurugu and Lance Corporal Emmanuel Arko, popularly known as Bullet — together with three Police officers identified as Inspector Richmond Osei, Corporal Gideon Anor and Lance Corporal Felix Deku Tetteyga.
The Police administration has interdicted the three officers to pave way for investigations.
Meanwhile, intelligence-led operations conducted on May 23 and 24, 2026 led to the arrest of three additional suspects namely Justin Oduro, also known as Don King or Mafia, Clement Gyasi and Farouk Zakari.
All the suspects are currently in Police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to arrest other accomplices linked to the syndicate.
