12 Feared Dead In Horrific Nkenkensu Crash

A tragic road accident at Nkenkensu in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region has claimed the lives of at least 12 people, leaving two others in critical condition.
The fatal collision occurred on Tuesday afternoon involving a commercial mini-bus travelling from Kumasi to Techiman and a trailer truck heading from Techiman towards Kumasi.
According to eyewitness accounts, the driver of the mini-bus attempted to overtake another vehicle but wrongly moved into the lane of the oncoming trailer, resulting in a head-on crash.
The impact of the collision left the passenger vehicle badly mangled, killing several occupants instantly.
Speaking to Swiftnews3, an eyewitness identified as Eric disclosed that the accident happened around 2:00 p.m., but emergency response was delayed.
“It took more than an hour before an ambulance arrived at the scene to carry the injured victims to the hospital,” he stated.
Medical personnel at the Nkenkensu Government Hospital later confirmed that 12 victims were pronounced dead on arrival, while two survivors are currently receiving treatment in critical condition.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital morgue pending identification and preservation.
Meanwhile, police officers have removed the wrecked vehicles from the highway to restore the free flow of traffic as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
The latest accident has renewed public concern over reckless overtaking and increasing road crashes on major highways in the country.
