Atwima Kwanwoma Assembly Empowers PWDs
The Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly, under the leadership of the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mrs. Grace Agyemang Asamoah, has provided relief items and financial support to Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) in the district as part of efforts to promote inclusiveness and economic empowerment.
The beneficiaries received items such as block-making machines, deep freezers, wheelchairs, popcorn machines and other working tools to support their businesses and daily livelihoods. Some beneficiaries also received cheques to cater for medical expenses and school fees.
Addressing the beneficiaries during the presentation, Mrs. Grace Agyemang Asamoah urged them to use the items productively to improve their economic conditions and become self-dependent.
She further appealed to families and relatives of Persons Living with Disabilities to support and encourage them emotionally and physically rather than neglecting them.
According to the DCE, disability is not inability, adding that with the needed support and opportunities, Persons Living with Disabilities can contribute significantly to the development of society.
She reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving the welfare of PWDs through continuous empowerment programmes across the country.
The District Social Welfare and Community Development Officer, Madam Hannah Yeboah, also advised the public against discriminating against Persons Living with Disabilities and encouraged society to accept and support them.
She further urged PWDs to remain united and advocate collectively for their welfare and development.
Meanwhile, the Local Chairman of the Federation of Persons Living with Disabilities, Mr. Yaw Nsafoah, encouraged members to identify and bring more Persons Living with Disabilities within their communities into the association to strengthen their collective voice.
He also appealed to the Assembly to speed up the release of funds allocated to Persons Living with Disabilities whenever such funds become available.
