Invest in Women to Drive Development – Obuasi MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi, Faustilove Appiah Kannin, has called for increased investment in women, describing it as essential for sustainable development and community growth.

Speaking at the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration at the AngloGold Ashanti School Park, she said the theme, “Give to Gain: Advancing Women Together,” highlights the shared responsibility of promoting women’s empowerment across all sectors.

The event, held in partnership with AngloGold Ashanti, brought together traditional leaders, corporate executives, Assembly Members, women’s groups and other stakeholders.

Hon. Faustilove noted that empowering women through education, skills training and financial support leads to stronger families and a more resilient local economy. She added that excluding women from decision-making processes hinders national development.

She further highlighted her “Obaa no aa” initiative as a commitment to supporting women in Obuasi, while pointing to the municipality’s historic leadership structure, with both the MCE and Municipal Coordinating Director being women, as a source of inspiration for young girls.

The MCE commended AngloGold Ashanti for its support in advancing women-focused programmes in areas such as health, economic empowerment and skills development, but stressed that more efforts are needed to ensure equal opportunities.

Quoting Ghanaian educationist James Emman Kwegyir Aggrey, she reiterated that educating a woman is key to national development, urging stakeholders to adopt inclusive policies.

The event also saw the recognition of individuals for their contributions to society, including the Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti, Eng. Pobee, Madam Agnes Amoah, and Madam Stella Ofori Atta.

She concluded by urging both men and women to work together to promote gender equality and take practical steps toward empowering women in the municipality.
