Obuasi MCE Commissions GH¢1.18m Projects to Boost Water, Education

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi, Faustilove Appiah Kannin, has commissioned six development projects worth over GH¢1.18 million to improve access to clean water and education in the municipality.

The projects, costing GH¢1,182,309.68, comprise four mechanised boreholes and two key educational facilities—an eight-seater washroom and a refurbished kindergarten block at the Bediem Experimental Basic School.
The boreholes, located at Awonakrom, Bediem, Kulem and the Railways enclave, are expected to ease longstanding water challenges and provide residents with reliable access to potable water.

Speaking during the commissioning, the MCE called on residents to take ownership of the projects and ensure proper maintenance to guarantee their long-term benefits.
She expressed concern about the poor maintenance culture associated with public facilities and urged communities to protect the investments.
“These projects are meant to serve you for a long time. It is your responsibility to ensure they are properly maintained and used for their intended purpose,” she stated.

Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin attributed the successful execution of the projects to government support and thanked John Dramani Mahama for providing the necessary resources.
She also commended the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr .Frank Amoakohene, for his leadership and commitment to the development of the municipality.

The Municipal Director of Education, Alfred George Koomson, who spoke on behalf of the Bediem Experimental Basic School, expressed appreciation to the Assembly and urged both staff and pupils to maintain the facilities.
Residents in the beneficiary communities welcomed the projects, particularly the boreholes, describing the intervention as timely amid ongoing water challenges.
“With the water situation in some areas affected by pollution, this intervention is timely. Water is life, and this will greatly improve our living conditions,” a resident said.

The commissioning exercise, which lasted two days, was attended by the Presiding Member of the Assembly, David Odoom, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Joyce Akosua Angmorteh, Assembly Members, and staff of the Assembly.
The six projects are part of a broader infrastructure drive by the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, with 19 additional projects expected to be commissioned by June this year.
