Asokore Mampong Cracks Down on ‘Adedeta’ Riders Over Traffic Violations

Authorities in the Asokore Mampong Municipality have announced tough new measures to deal with rickshaw operators, popularly known as “Adedeta,” who flout road traffic regulations.

The Municipal Security Council says the growing indiscipline among riders is posing serious security and safety concerns, hence the decision to strictly enforce the law.

The decision was taken at a meeting held on April 1, 2026, between the Council and executives of various Adedeta stations across the municipality.

Starting April 15, 2026, the Police will begin full enforcement of traffic regulations, with offenders facing arrest and possible prosecution.

As part of the new directives, foreigners have been banned from operating Adedeta within the municipality. Any foreigner found riding will be arrested together with the owner of the tricycle.

The Council also warned that only riders with valid documentation, including licences and roadworthy certificates, will be allowed to operate. Minors engaged in the business, as well as their owners, will also face prosecution.

In addition, riders have been cautioned not to carry more than three passengers at a time, as overloading remains a punishable offence.

Municipal Chief Executive and Chairman of the Security Council, Hon. Ben Abdallah Alhassan, is urging all riders to comply with the new measures to ensure safety and discipline on the roads.
