Kumasi: Outrage Over Abandoned Baby Girl at Cemetery

Residents of Konkroamoase near Atasomanso in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region have been thrown into a state of outrage following the discovery of an abandoned newborn baby at a cemetery.

The baby girl was found on Monday, April 6, 2026, wrapped in cloth and left at the cemetery, sparking shock and concern among residents.

According to eyewitnesses, the infant was found crying inside a small bundle, prompting residents to quickly rescue her.

“It was a small bundle wrapped in cloth, and when we opened it, we saw the baby crying,” a resident said.

The Assembly Member for the Atasomanso Electoral Area, Hon. Abdul Samid, popularly known as Opele, condemned the act, describing it as disturbing and unacceptable.

“This is a very sad incident. As a leader, I am deeply concerned about the welfare of our community. Such an act should not happen,” he stated.

He confirmed that the case has been reported to the Konkroamoase Police Station, where investigations are ongoing.

“We have informed the police, and they are investigating. We urge anyone with information to come forward to assist in identifying the mother,” he added.

The baby is currently receiving care, while efforts are underway to locate the mother and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Residents have also called for increased public education and support systems to help prevent similar cases in the future.
